Over the last 10 years, the music business has experienced a digital revolution. Advances in audio recording technology have drastically lowered the cost of the equipment needed to produce music. The advent of the Internet has undercut the commercial record industry as well. Major record labels have lost millions of dollars in album sales as people stopped buying CDs and began to download and share music.
More and more musicians and bands have realized that a major record deal is not necessary to produce and distribute music. Because it is affordable to build a decent recording studio at home, many artists now play all the roles in the recording process themselves. That way, they can now control their own music and careers. In other words, today is the ideal environment for the independent musician.
One such artist, Tavi Fields, is taking advantage of the new musical landscape. She shares her thoughts about the music industry in this audio package.
The time for the independent artist has arrived: Tavi is a one-woman record label.
